The ESADE Alumni Health and Pharma Club, together with the ESADE Alumni Marketing Club, organized a session titled "OTC market, an opportunity for laboratories and marketing professionals?". The objective of the conference was for managers with high responsibility and experience in this field to explain their vision of the OTC market and the opportunities that are opening up for companies and marketing professionals, taking into account the current situation of the Spanish pharmaceutical market and the impact of the latest decrees.
They participated in the session Javier Altemir (Marketing Director and Almirall Pharmacy Business Unit), Javier Navarro (Director of Uriach-Aquilea OTC) and Manel Vera (Director of Ferrer HealthCare) and the conclusions were presented by Carles Torrecilla (Senior Professor of the Department of Marketing Management at ESADE).
Javier Altemir highlighted that there is a clear commitment to innovation in pharmacy. “We must help pharmacies increase turnover, because more than 2,000,000 people enter every day and we see the pharmacy as a great hot spot.”
The Director of Uriach-Aquilea, Javier Navarro, stated that there really is an opportunity for the OTC market and for all the people who work in it and not only the large multinational laboratories but also the national brands come into play.
And finally, the third presentation was by Manel Vera who explained to us the importance of taking into account not only OTC products but the entire category of non-financed health products (consumer health, personal care, patient care and nutrition) regardless of who I paid it.
Without a doubt, all the speakers made it clear that the development of the business of unfinanced products is a growth opportunity for laboratories in Spain and that pharmaceutical marketing executives must bet on this sector with great potential.
And if we add to this that Spain is close to the European average in terms of market figures for OTC products, with 1,676 million euros of OTC turnover placing Spain in sixth position with respect to the rest of the European countries. Can we continue to doubt the new opportunity that the pharmaceutical sector is giving us?
